Graze wins Scotland’s best coffee shop of the year award second year running

Graze Coffee and Chocolate House scooped an award at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards for the second year running.

Martin and Lorraine Ferguson, from the business, on Dunbar’s High Street, were delighted to attend the awards ceremony, which took place in Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza Hotel.

Last year, they claimed the south-east region award but 12 months on they went one better to lift the national prize.

Lorraine said: “We’re absolutely delighted to receive such an accolade and, as Graze celebrates its 10th anniversary, Martin and I are extremely excited and humbled to be recognised in this field.

“We actually attended this year’s awards simply to support Scottish independent retailers with no expectations, as we were lucky enough to have been chosen as regional winner in the coffee shop category last year, when unfortunately we couldn’t attend. So to win the regional award for the second year running was indeed a surprise and delight.

“We were totally shocked at the announcement that we were also overall winner for Scottish Independent Retailer 2017 Coffee Shop of the Year and pretty chuffed to receive a lovely winning trophy!”

The awards are designed to celebrate local businesses, with the winners chosen by members of the public. Radio presenter Gina McKie hosted the awards, which aim to highlight the value of independent retailers.

Graze Coffee and Chocolate House has been on High Street for almost 10 years, with the business celebrating a decade there in July.

Lorraine added: “We have had an amazing 10 years in business so far. Here’s to the next 10 years!”

Steven Hill, chairman of Dunbar Trades’ Association, was among those offering congratulations to the couple. Hill said: “I think in terms of High Street in general we are definitely going through a peak, with more visitors to the town brought by the John Muir Way and beautiful coastline.

“It is great to see businesses achieve success and be noted. Lorraine does a fantastic job and they are consistently well thought of in the town and bring lots of visitors to the town. So, really well done.”

Irfan Younis, of event organisers Creative Oceanic, praised the quality of the winners, saying: “We were delighted to see so many people attending the awards in a celebration of the sixth Scottish Independent Retail Awards. We are humbled and honoured to deliver another great event.

“Congratulations to all the finalists and winners.”
